Overview

The product

Slotly is a reservation MVP for service businesses such as salons, therapists, trainers, automotive services and consultants. It combines a public flow, where customers can book without an account, with a private workspace for each business.

An owner registers, creates a business through onboarding, adds its services and staff, sets location and staff hours, and shares a public booking link. A customer chooses a service, an eligible staff member and an available time before entering their details. The business then manages the day through its dashboard, calendar, booking list, customer records, services, staff schedules and settings.

Business workspace

The dashboard, team calendar and booking list use tenant-owned records. Owners can create manual appointments, reschedule them and update booking statuses.

Public booking flow

Guests choose a service, an assigned staff member and a calculated time without creating a Slotly account. The resulting customer and booking records are saved transactionally.

Availability engine

Bookable slots respect location hours, staff schedules, time off, existing active bookings, service duration, interval, lead time, booking window and the location timezone.

Tenant-aware architecture

An authenticated membership resolves the active organization on the server. Data access is scoped by organization ID, reinforced by tenant-aware relationships and composite foreign keys in PostgreSQL.

Services, staff and customers

Businesses manage services and pricing, staff assignments and schedules, time off, searchable customer records, private notes and booking history.

Plan entitlements

Free, Solo, Business and Team rules enforce staff capacity, monthly booking limits and booking-page branding on the server. Payment and paid-plan activation are not connected yet.

The challenge

Availability cannot be inferred from an empty calendar cell. Slotly intersects location and staff hours, then applies service duration, the booking interval, lead time, booking window and timezone while removing time off and overlapping pending or confirmed bookings. Before a public or manual booking is written, PostgreSQL advisory transaction locks serialize competing requests for that organization and staff member, and the slot is calculated again inside the transaction.

Current status

Slotly is in development as a local MVP. Its business workspace, public and manual booking flows, customer records, authentication, transactional emails and server-side plan entitlements are implemented with PostgreSQL-backed data. Paid-plan activation and payments, organization switching, invitations, uploads, SMS, external calendars, scheduled reminders and production deployment are not included yet.
